For sales leaders – stop trying to be the ‘perfect’ candidate
As the CEO of OpenERP SA, Fabien Pinckaers has played a role in a number of interviews. And among many interview tips, he feels that candidates do themselves a great disservice when they fail to show off their greatest strengths in an effort to seem “perfect” in every way.
Rather than looking for someone without a weakness, look for someone who’s really special at something.
How can sales people get their application ignored? Making a long motivational speech in their initial message. Make it short, straight and to the point.
After that, the company sends out a pre-interview survey with technical questions, which vary by role. For marketers, they are asked “What would be a marketing campaign for the company?” Each survey is read, and then evaluated before an interview is even scheduled.
That combination of showing strengths, making good answers and staying concise can separate candidates from the crowd.
